September 20, 2023, 8:00am

West Adelaide SC is proud to announce the appointment of Yianni Stamatelopoulos for the next 3 seasons as the inaugural coach of its Under 18 Academy side.

There will be a soft launch of the program in 2024 with players from younger age groups invited to train with the under 18 squad proper, with 2025 seeing the program develop in its entirety.

Yianni, a former West Adelaide youth player, had this to say about the program and his appointment, ‘I’m ecstatic to be back at West Adelaide and proud to see this initiative come to life. I’m passionate about the development of young footballers and the goal of this program will be about setting out to have as many players feature in not just our first team but the A-League and overseas’.

Chairman and President, John Tsianos reiterated Yianni’s sentiments, ‘The Club needs to be true to its word about wanting to develop its own players and this program will ensure we do just that. Investing in youth development is a vital component of our strategy to become a sustainable Club, not just for the years ahead but for future generations’.

2024 will be a transitional year which will see a 22-player squad selected from predominantly current West Adelaide players.

The team will continue with a traditional 3 day per week plus game schedule.

An additional 2 sessions will be scheduled for a wider group which will see younger players invited to join the team.

Moving into 2025, the team will then shift into a ‘European-style’ regime which will include:

  • 6+ training sessions per week
  • Nutritionist to oversee players diet (food will be provided for post-training meals)
  • Formal agreements will need to be signed by players and parents. Official notices will be sent by the Club to the players School
  • 22-26 player squad featuring players aged between 14-17 years old
  • Players who aren’t successful in making the under 18 match day squad will then feature in their respective age team
  • All players who feature in the under 18 squad will be required to attend a Sunday recovery session at Park27B
  • All players will be assigned a youth team to mentor
  • Team will be entered into other competitions and tournaments
  • No registration or fees will be required to be paid by any player selected (2025 onwards)

Yianni has previously been first team coach at Adelaide Cobras, Adelaide Olympic and Adelaide Vicotry, and now heads up Eleven Football Academy with another former West Adelaide youth player, Adilson Lopes. Chairman’s Update

John Tsianos, the Chairman of the West Adelaide Soccer Club, is excited to share an important update with all members, families, and friends of the WASC community.

June 12, 2023, 10:30am

Dear members, friends, and families of West Adelaide SC,

I cannot believe we’re already close to halfway through 2023. The month of June marks a significant milestone for myself – 6 months since assuming the privilege of being elected Chairman of our Club.

It’s been a testing period with a lot to navigate however I’m happy to share that we’ve been working closely with the Office of Recreation, Sport & Racing, and have engaged Tandem Building Group to assist with getting the Kilburn Sportsplex ready for games. We’re close to works commencing, which I’m sure is music to the ears of everyone involved, and although we expect works to conclude in late 2023, the plan is to launch in round 1 of next season.

We’ve been working tirelessly to secure the future of the Club and have signed numerous sponsorships including long-standing Major Sponsor, Distinctive Homes, Platinum Sponsors PMN Lawyers and IP Partners, plus Club Sponsors Fielders, Triple M, Strangio, Dowell, CXT Legal & Terry White Chemist (West Lakes). Our thanks go to all sponsors, it’s this support that will make us sustainable for the future.

From a digital perspective we’ve made strides forward with updating our website, the introduction of a gameday guide, and engaging social media content. Be sure to follow us on social media as there are plenty of fantastic prizes to be won.

Our junior program has gone from strength to strength since the addition of Technical Directors Adilson Lopes and Yianni Stamatelopoulos. Their ability to ‘coach the coaches’ has been a revelation and we’ll be releasing a long-term strategy document detailing what’s in store for the juniors in the coming months. Kudos to our Junior President Anthony Kalogerinis and all the volunteers at B27 for their efforts this year. With Adelaide City Council stalling our development plans, we need your voice now more than ever. If everyone could spare 5 minutes and complete the online form, every voice counts!

After a tremendous first half of the season, the Senior Team has had the unfortunate luck of several starting players falling to injury. Results have not gone our way however Jim and the entire team are united, and the camaraderie and culture that has been built will hold us in good stead. Good luck to all teams for the remainder of the season and shoutout to the supporters group ‘The ‘78’. The atmosphere you’ve created at our games, both home & away, has been fantastic and it brings back many childhood memories of my friends and I supporting the Club at

Hindmarsh. Keep it going!

Here’s to a successful second half of 2023 both on and off the pitch and be sure to keep an eye out for our newsletter which will feature on a bi-monthly basis. The future of West Adelaide is bright and I for one cannot wait to see what unfolds.
