Hear from our Chairman about the latest update on West Adelaide SC.

January 10, 2025, 10:00am

Dear Members and Supporters,

On behalf of the Club, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a fantastic start to the New Year.

Wishing you all the best for the year ahead!

The past few months have been incredibly eventful for our club, with numerous projects underway, pre-season preparations in full swing, and, of course, the unforgettable visit from the Euro 2004 Legends. We had the privilege of hosting three iconic members  of Greece’s Euro 2004-winning team: Theodoros Zagorakis, Giorgos Karagounis, and Angelos Charisteas. It was an unforgettable experience to spend time with these ‘Greek Gods of 2004.’ For those who attended the event at Kilburn or the sold-out luncheon at Coopers Stadium, it truly was a “pinch-yourself” moment.

Their insights captivated young and old alike, but one comment in particular gave me goosebumps. Angelos Charisteas reflected on his career and his iconic goal in the Euro 2004 final:

“The first time I watched TV was the European Cup final in 1988. The infamous Van Basten goal not only made me fall deeper in love with football, but I thought to myself, this is what I’m going to aspire to achieve in my career. The premonition I had in 1988 came true in 2004 when heading in the winning goal.”

Spine-tingling!

Photos from the luncheon and Kilburn visit can be viewed on the club socials. Additionally, the club has designed and produced a special collection of limited edition Euro 2004 Legends Cards. These exclusive cards were personally signed during the legends visit to Adelaide, adding a unique touch of authenticity and nostalgia for fans. With only 200 cards available, this collectible series is a must have for enthusiasts and supporters alike. **FOOTBALL**

Pre-season training for our senior teams is well underway, with new head coach Theo Tsounis settling in seamlessly and already challenging the squad. Prior to the holiday break, the senior team had already played four pre season games, putting them in an excellent position as they gear up for the new year and prepare for round 1.

This weekend, the senior setup will attend a camp designed to foster team bonding and collaboration through a series of activities. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for the U18 & U20 players to interact with senior team members and coaches, providing valuable insights into the senior team environment and expectations.

**JUNIORS / PARK 27B**

This offseason, we’ve continued to invest in maintaining the pitches at Park 27B. Thanks to these efforts, no games or training sessions were cancelled in 2024 due to pitch conditions—a testament to our commitment to providing top-quality facilities.

In the coming weeks, we’ll announce the coaching lineup for our Boys’ and Girls’ Youth Championship teams, and we’re excited about the season ahead.

Best regards,

John Tsianos
